Restore Smile Function

What Are Crowns & Bridges?

Crowns and bridges are like superheroes for damaged or missing teeth. Crowns are caps that fit over a damaged tooth, giving it strength and a nice look. Bridges, on the other hand, fill the gap left by missing teeth. They’re like a dental version of a bridge over a river, connecting healthy teeth on either side of the gap.

Let’s start with crowns. They’re used when a tooth is too damaged for a filling but not so bad it needs to come out. The dentist shapes the tooth, then fits a custom-made cap over it. For bridges, the dentist puts crowns on the teeth next to the gap, with a fake tooth attached between them. Both crowns and bridges are made to match your other teeth, so they blend right in. At Tkatch Dentistry in High Point, NC, we use crowns and bridges to restore smiles and help you chew and speak comfortably.

Tooth Repair Path

Crowns & Bridges Procedure

Creating crowns and bridges involves several steps. We start by preparing your teeth and taking precise impressions. Our lab crafts your custom restoration. Once ready, we fit and cement it in place, adjusting for your comfort and bite. The result is a strong, natural-looking smile.
1

Consultation and Planning

At Tkatch Dentistry, we start by looking closely at your teeth. We check to see if a crown or bridge is the best way to fix your smile. We might take x-rays to get a good look at your teeth and bones. We talk with you about how crowns or bridges can help and what to expect.

Our team explains the different types we offer, including our same-day crown option. We answer all your questions so you feel good about the plan. We want you to understand every step of the process. We're here to help restore your smile right here in High Point, NC.

2

Preparing Your Teeth

When it's time to start, we make sure you're comfortable first. We use numbing medicine so you don't feel any pain. For a crown, we gently shape your tooth to make room for it. For a bridge, we prepare the teeth on either side of the gap.

We take careful measurements of your teeth. If you're getting a same-day crown, we use our special CEREC machine to make it right here. For other crowns or bridges, we make a temporary one for you to wear while the permanent one is being made. Our team at Tkatch Dentistry takes great care to get everything just right.

3

Placing Your New Crown or Bridge

If you're getting a same-day crown, we fit and place it right away. For other crowns or bridges, you come back when they're ready. We take off the temporary one and check that your new crown or bridge fits perfectly. We might make small adjustments to get the fit just right.

Then, we use strong cement to attach it securely. We make sure it feels comfortable when you bite. We give you tips on how to care for your new crown or bridge. At Tkatch Dentistry, we love seeing our High Point patients smile confidently with their new teeth. We're here to help you enjoy your restored smile for years to come!

Crowns & Bridges FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Repair damaged teeth and fill gaps with crowns and bridges at Tkatch Dentistry in High Point, NC. Dr. Tkatch creates custom-fitted restorations that strengthen weak teeth and replace missing ones. Our solutions blend naturally with your smile while restoring full function.

What's the difference between a crown and a bridge?

At Tkatch Dentistry, we use crowns and bridges to restore damaged or missing teeth, but they serve different purposes. A crown is a cap that covers a single damaged tooth, restoring its shape, size, and strength. A bridge, on the other hand, replaces one or more missing teeth by anchoring to the teeth on either side of the gap.

Both crowns and bridges can improve your smile’s appearance and function. During your visit to our High Point, NC office, we’ll examine your teeth and discuss which option is best for your specific needs.
With proper care, crowns and bridges can last many years. On average, they typically last 5-15 years, but many patients enjoy their restorations for even longer. The lifespan depends on factors like your oral hygiene habits, diet, and whether you grind your teeth.

At Tkatch Dentistry, we use high-quality materials and advanced techniques to ensure the longevity of your restorations. Regular check-ups at our High Point, NC office allow us to monitor your crown or bridge and address any issues early, helping to extend its lifespan.
We prioritize your comfort at Tkatch Dentistry. Getting a crown or bridge shouldn’t be painful. We use local anesthesia to numb the area before any work begins. You might feel some pressure during the procedure, but you shouldn’t feel pain.

After the procedure, you might experience some sensitivity for a few days, especially to hot and cold. This is normal and usually subsides quickly. If you’re anxious about the procedure, let us know during your visit to our High Point, NC office. We can discuss additional comfort options to ensure a positive experience.
Traditionally, getting a crown or bridge requires two appointments: one to prepare the tooth and take impressions, and another to place the final restoration. However, at Tkatch Dentistry in High Point, NC, we offer same-day crowns using advanced CAD/CAM technology. This means we can often prepare your tooth, create the crown, and place it all in a single visit.

Bridges typically still require two appointments, as they’re more complex restorations. During your consultation, we’ll provide a clear timeline for your specific treatment plan.
Caring for your crown or bridge is similar to caring for your natural teeth. We recommend brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and visiting our High Point, NC office regularly for check-ups and cleanings. For bridges, we’ll show you how to use special floss threaders to clean under the pontic (the replacement tooth).

Avoid chewing on extremely hard foods or using your teeth as tools, as this can damage both natural teeth and dental restorations. If you grind your teeth at night, we might recommend a nightguard to protect your crown or bridge.
The cost of crowns and bridges can vary depending on factors like the materials used, the complexity of the case, and how many teeth are involved. During your consultation at our High Point, NC office, we’ll provide a detailed cost breakdown after examining your teeth.

At Tkatch Dentistry, we believe in transparent pricing. We accept various forms of payment and can help you understand your insurance coverage. Remember, investing in your oral health can prevent more costly dental problems down the line.
Unlike natural teeth, crowns and bridges can’t be whitened. They’re made of materials that don’t respond to whitening treatments. If you’re planning on whitening your teeth, it’s best to do so before getting a crown or bridge so we can match the restoration to your whitened teeth.

If you’re unhappy with the color of your existing crown or bridge, we can discuss replacement options during your visit to our High Point, NC office. We always aim to create restorations that blend seamlessly with your natural teeth.
At Tkatch Dentistry, we offer several materials for crowns and bridges, including porcelain, ceramic, and porcelain-fused-to-metal. Each has its advantages, and the best choice depends on factors like the tooth’s location, your budget, and aesthetic preferences.

Porcelain and ceramic crowns offer the most natural appearance, making them ideal for front teeth. Porcelain-fused-to-metal provides a good balance of strength and aesthetics. During your visit to our High Point, NC office, we’ll discuss the pros and cons of each option to help you make an informed decision.
While crowns are designed to be long-lasting, they can occasionally come loose or fall off. This can happen due to decay developing under the crown, trauma to the tooth, or the cement washing out over time.

If your crown falls off, keep it in a safe place and contact our High Point, NC office right away. Don’t try to glue it back on yourself. We can often re-cement the crown if it’s still in good condition. In the meantime, avoid chewing on that tooth and be careful with hot and cold foods as the exposed tooth may be sensitive.
Yes, there are alternatives depending on your specific situation. For a damaged tooth that might need a crown, a large filling or onlay might be sufficient in some cases. For missing teeth, alternatives to bridges include dental implants or partial dentures.

At Tkatch Dentistry, we believe in providing all available options. During your visit to our High Point, NC office, we’ll discuss the pros and cons of each treatment option, considering factors like your oral health, budget, and long-term goals. Our aim is always to find the solution that best meets your individual needs.

I came to Tkatch Dentistry for the first time in December 2024. I hadn’t been to the dentist in about 10-12 years, had a tooth bothering me that I wanted extracted and also knew I needed some more work done. Dr. Tkatch was direct with me, that I’m still very young and he felt if I got on top of getting my cavities filled, I’d be in good shape as long as I continue to stay on top of my dental care. He stated “you don’t have a cleaning problem but a flossing problem.” Some may find that rude, but he was right, I never really understood the benefit of flossing and most of my cavities were in areas where if I’d flossed, I may not have the same issues. Now I am an avid, everyday flosser. Your dental health can affect so many other parts of your body including your brain. He got me set up with a treatment plan in which I’ve fulfilled almost all of, nearly a year later and my mouth is feeling much better. During recent cleanings I was complimented on my current home care by the dental hygienist and was pleased to hear “you don’t have a lot going on in there” as I still have a few cavities to fill. Both Dr. Tkatch and Dr. Kevin have treated me and all of the dental hygienists who have assisted have been great! Dr. Tkatch is direct and will tell you like it is and Dr. Kevin is funny and has a bubbly personality. Both great dentists and I appreciate all the work they’ve done to help me and educate me so I can keep all of my teeth for years to come! Edit to add: the office staff have always been kind to me and gone over any potential out of pocket payments that may occur, and have been great when trying to find me a Friday to schedule as it works best with my schedule. Also, I have been put on a waitlist a couple of times for a potential opening at an earlier time and each time they were able to call and offer a time which was great when I needed to get in earlier!

Dr Tkatch and Sabina helped me with extensive dental work and did a superb job on fixing my smile. Both of them explained the entire process in detail and helped made me feel comfortable throughout the entire experience. Their attention to detail is flawless and feel like they spent the same time and effort helping me as if they were doing the same procedure for themselves. The ENTIRE Tkatch staff are really amazing and everyone makes you feel so welcome in their office. I give Tkatch dentistry my highest recommendation and would trust them for any dental procedure big or small. Thank you so much, i appreciate you all!!
