Relaxation Steps Explained

Sedation Procedure

We make dental visits stress-free with sedation. We’ll review your health history and explain your options. On the day of treatment, we administer the chosen sedation and monitor you closely. You’ll feel relaxed throughout your procedure and recover comfortably afterwards.
1

Step 1: Sedation Consultation

At Tkatch Dentistry, we start by talking about why you might want sedation. We listen to your concerns about dental visits. We go over your health history to make sure sedation is safe for you. Our team explains the different types of sedation we offer, like laughing gas or oral conscious sedation.

We talk about how each one works and helps you relax. We answer all your questions so you feel good about choosing sedation. We want you to feel comfortable and at ease about your dental care. We're here to help make your visit stress-free, right here in High Point, NC.

2

Step 2: Preparing for Sedation

Once we decide on the right sedation for you, we give you instructions to get ready. For laughing gas, you don't need to do much. If you're getting oral sedation, we might ask you not to eat or drink for a few hours before. We'll give you a pill to take before your visit.

Our team at Tkatch Dentistry makes sure you know what to expect. We talk about how you'll feel and how long the effects last. If you're getting oral sedation, we remind you to bring someone to drive you home after. We want you to feel prepared and relaxed about your upcoming visit.

3

Step 3: Sedation and Dental Care

On the day of your visit, we make sure you're comfortable. If you're getting laughing gas, we put a small mask over your nose. You'll start to feel relaxed pretty quickly. For oral sedation, we check that you've taken your pill and are feeling its effects.

We keep a close eye on you during your whole visit to make sure you're safe and comfortable. After we're done, we make sure you're ready to go home. We give you and your ride home instructions for after-care. At Tkatch Dentistry, we're happy we can help our High Point patients feel relaxed during dental care. We want to make sure you have a good experience and keep coming back for the care you need!

Frequently Asked Questions

Experience stress-free dental care with sedation options at Tkatch Dentistry in High Point, NC. Dr. Tkatch offers laughing gas and oral sedation to help anxious patients feel relaxed during treatment. Our team ensures your comfort while providing the care you need.

What types of sedation does Tkatch Dentistry offer?

At Tkatch Dentistry in High Point, NC, we offer several sedation options to help our patients feel comfortable during dental procedures. These include:
  • Nitrous oxide (laughing gas)
  • Oral conscious sedation
  • IV sedation (for more complex procedures)

During your visit, we’ll discuss your medical history, anxiety level, and the planned procedure to determine the most appropriate sedation method for you.
Yes, sedation dentistry is safe when administered by trained professionals like our team at Tkatch Dentistry. We closely monitor your vital signs throughout the procedure to ensure your safety. Before recommending sedation, we’ll review your medical history and current medications to check for any potential risks.

Our High Point, NC office follows strict protocols and uses modern equipment to provide safe sedation. We’re always happy to address any safety concerns you might have during your consultation.
With most forms of sedation we offer at Tkatch Dentistry, you’ll remain conscious but in a very relaxed state. Even with deeper forms of sedation, you’re not fully unconscious as you would be with general anesthesia.

With nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation, you’ll be awake but feel calm and maybe a bit drowsy. IV sedation can induce a deeper state of relaxation where you might drift in and out of sleep, but you can still be roused if needed.
The duration of sedation effects varies depending on the type used:
  • Nitrous oxide wears off quickly, and you can usually drive yourself home after the procedure.
  • Oral conscious sedation effects can last several hours, so you’ll need someone to drive you home.
  • IV sedation effects can last for the rest of the day, and you’ll definitely need a ride home.

We’ll provide specific instructions based on your sedation type during your visit to our High Point, NC office.
While sedation dentistry is great for those with dental anxiety, it’s also helpful for other situations. At Tkatch Dentistry, we might recommend sedation for:
  • Patients undergoing long or complex procedures
  • Those with a strong gag reflex
  • People with difficulty getting numb with local anesthesia alone
  • Patients with physical conditions that make it hard to sit still for long periods

We’ll discuss whether sedation could benefit you during your consultation at our High Point, NC office.
The cost of sedation dentistry varies depending on the type of sedation and the length of your procedure. During your consultation at our High Point, NC office, we’ll provide a detailed cost breakdown after discussing your sedation needs and planned treatment.

Some dental insurance plans cover sedation, especially when it’s medically necessary. We’ll help you understand your coverage and discuss payment options to make your treatment as affordable as possible.
Preparation depends on the type of sedation:
  • For nitrous oxide, no special preparation is needed.
  • Reduced risk of complications
  • For oral conscious sedation, you’ll take a pill before your appointment and will need to arrange a ride.
  • For IV sedation, you’ll need to fast for a certain period before the procedure.

We’ll provide detailed instructions when you schedule your appointment at our High Point, NC office. Always inform us of any changes in your health or medications before your sedation appointment.
Yes, we offer sedation options for children at Tkatch Dentistry. Nitrous oxide is commonly used for children who are anxious or having longer procedures. In some cases, oral sedation might be recommended.

We take extra precautions with children and will thoroughly discuss the options with you. Our team in High Point, NC is experienced in making children feel comfortable and safe during dental visits.
The goal of sedation dentistry is to keep you comfortable and relaxed. While you might feel some pressure or vibration during the procedure, you shouldn’t feel pain. We also use local anesthesia in addition to sedation for most procedures.

If you do feel any discomfort during the procedure, you’ll be conscious enough to let us know, and we can adjust accordingly. Your comfort is our priority at Tkatch Dentistry.
This depends on the type of sedation and the procedure you had:
  • After nitrous oxide, you can usually eat and drink normally once the effects wear off.
  • With oral or IV sedation, wait until you’re fully alert and the numbness has worn off to avoid biting your cheek or tongue.

We’ll provide specific post-procedure instructions before you leave our High Point, NC office. If you’re unsure, it’s always best to start with cool, soft foods and avoid hot liquids until the numbness is completely gone.

I came to Tkatch Dentistry for the first time in December 2024. I hadn’t been to the dentist in about 10-12 years, had a tooth bothering me that I wanted extracted and also knew I needed some more work done. Dr. Tkatch was direct with me, that I’m still very young and he felt if I got on top of getting my cavities filled, I’d be in good shape as long as I continue to stay on top of my dental care. He stated “you don’t have a cleaning problem but a flossing problem.” Some may find that rude, but he was right, I never really understood the benefit of flossing and most of my cavities were in areas where if I’d flossed, I may not have the same issues. Now I am an avid, everyday flosser. Your dental health can affect so many other parts of your body including your brain. He got me set up with a treatment plan in which I’ve fulfilled almost all of, nearly a year later and my mouth is feeling much better. During recent cleanings I was complimented on my current home care by the dental hygienist and was pleased to hear “you don’t have a lot going on in there” as I still have a few cavities to fill. Both Dr. Tkatch and Dr. Kevin have treated me and all of the dental hygienists who have assisted have been great! Dr. Tkatch is direct and will tell you like it is and Dr. Kevin is funny and has a bubbly personality. Both great dentists and I appreciate all the work they’ve done to help me and educate me so I can keep all of my teeth for years to come! Edit to add: the office staff have always been kind to me and gone over any potential out of pocket payments that may occur, and have been great when trying to find me a Friday to schedule as it works best with my schedule. Also, I have been put on a waitlist a couple of times for a potential opening at an earlier time and each time they were able to call and offer a time which was great when I needed to get in earlier!

Dr Tkatch and Sabina helped me with extensive dental work and did a superb job on fixing my smile. Both of them explained the entire process in detail and helped made me feel comfortable throughout the entire experience. Their attention to detail is flawless and feel like they spent the same time and effort helping me as if they were doing the same procedure for themselves. The ENTIRE Tkatch staff are really amazing and everyone makes you feel so welcome in their office. I give Tkatch dentistry my highest recommendation and would trust them for any dental procedure big or small. Thank you so much, i appreciate you all!!
